Massachusetts General Law 209A allows women who are physically abused or are afraid of being physically abused, obtain relief through the Courts. The Court has the power to issue orders that put very severe consequences on someone who ignores the restraining order. Even so much as an email is enough to send a defendant to jail. You don't have to prove anything. You can just call up and the Police will march right in, no questions asked.
Of course, the defendant will eventually get through the Court system, so your claim has to be valid, under penalty of perjury to you if you should lie.
